“Realizing Dreams of Music” - The Melinda Doolittle Music Scholarship at Belmont University
Melinda is extremely interested in assisting students to pursue higher education. For this reason we, at Melinda’s Backups™, have decided to start an endowed scholarship in her name. A scholarship is a gift that will last a lifetime as it makes it possible for students to achieve their educational and career dreams. An endowed scholarship is even more than that … it provides a permanent and personal way for Melinda and for us to make a difference in the lives of Belmont University students.
The Scholarship will support
a Belmont University talented undergraduate vocalist enrolled
in the Commercial Music Program who has demonstrable financial
difficulties. There are many talented, aspiring young
vocalists who cannot afford to pursue a college education
there, but contributors to this scholarship will help
alleviate at least part of the financial burden for a
deserving student. Every year, the Melinda Doolittle Music
Scholarship will make a difference in the life of one of these
gifted students.
Endowed funds differ from others; instead of the entire amount of the gift being spent outright, the total amount of the gift is invested. Each year, only a portion of the invested income earned is spent while the remainder is added to the original principal. An endowment is a perpetual gift because only the interest is used for the scholarship while the principle continues to grow. It is a wonderful way to link Melinda’s legacy with the future of Belmont University forever. This means that more students like Melinda will gain access to the Belmont experience, and that we will contribute to their “big dreams.” By investing in our youth, we change the world.

Belmont University School of Music
Located in the heart of
Nashville, just a few steps from Music Row, Belmont University
is one of the largest private universities in Tennessee.
Music students at Belmont receive excellent training which builds on their existing skills and talents and provides them with opportunities to further explore and expand their musical interest and abilities. The School of Music has a tradition of a strong choral program but is also home to one of the first commercial music programs in the country.
Commercial Music majors select an emphasis in Composition and Arranging, Music Business, Music Technology or Performance to prepare for careers as performing artists in various styles in the world of popular music. This major also prepares students for careers as composters, arrangers, and studio musicians, as wells as for work in music technology and other fields in the industry which require musical skills.
